The Port of Redwood City announces fiscal growth in both annual tonnage and gross revenue as it closes out fiscal year 2024 (FY24).
In FY24, the Port handled 1.83 million metric tons of cargo, a rise from the 1.82 million reported in fiscal year 2023 (FY23). The Port witnessed a similar increase in gross revenue, closing its fiscal year at $10.2 million in FY24 compared to $10 million the previous fiscal year.
The increase in revenue and cargo highlights the Port’s dedication to maritime commerce. This growth enhances the Port's impact as an economic engine for the broader Silicon Valley region and south San Francisco Bay while creating diverse job opportunities on the waterfront, all of which strengthen the region.
Amid the economic achievement, the Port also welcomed three new Port commissioners to the Port of Redwood City.
Mike Claire enters the Port commission after serving 35 years as an educator and an administrator for the San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD). Claire also spent time in two executive positions, including president of the College of San Mateo for 13 years and as chancellor of the SMCCCD from 2019 until his retirement in 2023.
Chu Chang was also appointed to the Port commission. Chang has a longstanding 30-plus-year career in the building and infrastructure industry leading transformative projects throughout Silicon Valley. He currently serves as the assistant director of planning, building and code enforcement department for the City of San José.
Lastly, new Port Commissioner Dani Gasparini has focused much of her career in Redwood City and San Mateo County where she was elected to the Redwood City Council at just 29 years old and became mayor of Redwood City two years later.
The new commissioners will each serve a four-year term and are responsible for various Port decisions.
Along with the newly appointed commissioners, board officers were also installed on Aug. 28, Stan Maupin was elected chairperson, Nancy Radcliffe was elected vice chairperson and Mike Claire was elected secretary. Each elected officer will serve a one-year term in their respective role on the board.
“We are grateful for each of the new commissioners that will help guide us to continued maritime excellence. We also know that their diverse backgrounds and expertise will collectively bring invaluable perspectives and leadership to our Port,” said Zortman.
