September 2026/Currents Newsletter
September was an exciting and busy month at the Port of Redwood City!
The proposed Redwood City Ferry Terminal took a major step closer to reality this month with the release of the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The Draft EIR evaluates the project’s potential environmental impacts and identifies measures to avoid or reduce them, with public comment open through Nov. 2.
The project could make Redwood City the southernmost hub in the San Francisco Bay Ferry system and expand transportation choices to San Francisco and the East Bay, reduce congestion on freeways and help unlock new economic activity along the waterfront.
Read more below about the project and how to participate in the public review process.
That momentum continues across our operations as the Port moved 474,608 metric tons of cargo in Q2 — roughly 1.25 times the weight of the Golden Gate Bridge — underscoring the scale of maritime commerce moving through Redwood City and its importance to the regional economy.
But the Port’s impact extends well beyond the activity on our docks. Last month, we were proud to support the Seafarers’ Ministry of the Golden Gate’s World Maritime Day Community Connections Breakfast, and in just a few days, we’ll welcome the community back to the waterfront for our annual PortFest celebration.
Read on for these stories and more, and we’ll see you on Saturday, Oct. 3, for PortFest.
