Fun Fact: The average size of a container ship is 336 meters long and 49 meters wide – about the size of 12 blue whales, which is the largest sea creature.

We’re diving into June headfirst as we hit the mid-year mark. We’re excited to share all the fun activities at the waterfront this month, give a little history lesson on our Port, and celebrate yet another special maritime holiday with Day of the Seafarer.

June 25 marks the Day of the Seafarer. It’s a maritime holiday initiated in 2010 by the Diplomatic Conference in Manila to reflect on the trade and economic contributions facilitated by seafarers worldwide. This year’s focus is on advancing safety and inclusivity at sea, with renewed initiatives to eliminate bullying and harassment in the maritime industry.

On the waterfront side, we have several activities lined up for your family and friends to enjoy fun in the sun. From Rock the Dock evenings and Redwood Water Sports events to sailing classes with Spinnaker Sailings, there are activities to keep you on your feet all month long.

As you stroll along the waterfront, take a moment to journey through the Port’s rich history. What began as a lumber route has evolved into a dynamic space that meets the maritime and recreational needs of Silicon Valley. Discover the story that connects our past to our present.

I hope to see community members this summer enjoying the scenery, activities and all we have to offer here at the Port.
