Port of Redwood City received the Redwood City Education Foundation’s INVESTORS AWARD at its Benefit for a Brighter Future held at the Pacific Athletic Club on May 6, 2010.
Port Commission Chairman Ralph Garcia accepted the Investors Award on behalf of the Port Commission expressing that the Port is very honored to be selected for this recognition. The partnering between the Port and Redwood City schools is something that all of the Port Commissioners strongly support. The Port has been a sponsor of RCEF since 1998. Beginning with the “Music for Learning” program, we have seen RCEF expand its support of Redwood City school children to include academic programs and outdoor education.
The Port has been pleased to support RCEF in achieving their goal of providing a high quality education to Redwood City school children. Garcia then introduced Bernardo Polvo Romero, an 8th grade student at McKinley Instititute of Technology. Bernardo is going to attend Sequoia High School next year and spoke about his trip to Yosemite Institute, partly supported by a SMART grant.
