Concert and Fireworks

4th of July, 2004
at the Port of Redwood City

Contact: Mike Giari, Port of Redwood City, 650-306-4150

For the sixth consecutive year, the Port of Redwood City will host the Peninsula's most popular fireworks extravaganza on Sunday, July 4th with the Peninsula Celebration Association-sponsored fireworks display starting at about 9:30 p.m. The fireworks can be seen from throughout Redwood City with some of the best viewing areas on the west side of Bayshore Freeway (Highway 101) between Whipple Avenue and Woodside Road.

Preceding the fireworks will be a concert at the Port of Redwood City Marina outdoor stage from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring the four-member Fred McCarty and Company Band, performing country, swing, and a little bit of rock, blues, and R & B.

For the first time this year, a tall ship replica of an 18th century gun ship will be sailing in view of shoreline spectators prior to the fireworks display. The Royaliste is a 71 foot long, gaff-rigged ketch that has been built to the specifications of gun boats of the Revolutionary War period. The Royaliste has participated in naval battle reenactments and piracy recreations. The firing of her cannons will be choreographed to open the fireworks display. The Royaliste will be berthed at the Port’s Guest Dock from July 3rd to July 5th but WILL NOT be open for public tours. There will be photo opportunities and a costumed crew that will be available to answer questions from the public.

Ea
rlier in the day, the Peninsula Celebration Association will present the 65th annual Independence Day Parade, starting at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Redwood City. This year’s theme is “Seussentennial, A Century of Imagination,” celebrating the birth of Dr. Seuss in 1904. The parade brings entries from across the state to compete for more than $25,000 in awards and cash prizes. The parade will move along the 1.3 mile route through downtown Redwood City, starting at Brewster and Winslow. A downtown arts and crafts festival follows the parade. For up-to-date information on all activities for July 4, visit  www.parade.org.
