Port of Redwood City, Serving Global Shippers and the Local Community

Ferry Status

The Port of Redwood City is collaborating with the City of Redwood City and the State of California Water Transit Authority to establish a passenger ferry service between the Port and destinations in South San Francisco, San Francisco and the East Bay.
Expected service involves the use of two 149 passenger “clean” high speed catamaran ferries operating initially during commute hours. This addition to the WTA Bay Area ferry system is not expected to be funded until well after the commencement in 2008 of the recently approved extension of the San Mateo County Measure A ½ cent sales tax. Funds are currently being sought to help launch the service much earlier than the expected date of 2012.

Ferries will not only assist in freeway traffic congestion relief but will also play a major role in post-event recovery efforts from an earthquake, terrorist incident or other disasters.
